The successful candidate will:
- Ensure the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's standards of maintenance are delivered consistently at cemeteries, scattered graves and memorials. Point of contact for horticultural needs and advice.
- Assisting the Country Manager and AAA Hort Manager with the improvement of performance, standards, and efficiency of horticultural operations, through local procurement, provision and analysis of management information and operational data, including regular PQMS reports.
- Deliver technical staff training to ensure operations are carried out in accordance with organizational policy and approved working practices.Gather and collate cemetery and horticultural management and performance data. lead on re-establishing Cem. Green Folders and updating horticultural layout plans.

We are looking for an experienced and practical technical person to support our Operations Supervisor in the inspection and carrying out of structural and horticultural maintenance of war graves and memorials throughout South Africa.
To be successful you will be able to demonstrate the ability to solve problems, work as a proactive and positive member of a small team, be a confident and effective traveller and able to carry out a variety of maintenance tasks, to include, but not limited to; fixing headstones, repointing, erecting structures, e.g., fences, retaining walls, refurbishing bronze features and horticultural maintenance. You will also be effective at sourcing and purchasing local materials and also engaging and managing local labour as required.

- A clean driving licence Code (EB, EC or EC1) (Must be able to tow a trailer with GMV greater than 750kg’s) and ability to drive safely

About this Role
The post holder works in a mobile role or at a static site, and is responsible for the maintenance of a number of specific plots within a region under the supervision of the (Senior) Head Gardener. You'll play a vital part in supporting the Commemorations programme, responding to enquiries, maintaining the casualty database, and processing the output of casework and policy decisions. It also includes managing the collection, transportation, and erection of headstones. Horticultural responsibilities involve strimming, vegetation removal, and aiding in renovation projects. These are just a snapshot of the duties for this role. This is a mobile role with lots of travel, so you’ll have use of a van and it’s essential you’re able to park it overnight at your address. The role is practical, hands-on and requires a decent level of physical fitness. There will be occasional overnight stays, of which costs will be contributed.
What you need to have
- NAMM& BRAMM Licence (Not essential as training can be given, but advantageous)
- PA1 & PA6 (Not essential as training can be given, but advantageous)
- Full Drivers Licence
- Knowledge of Manual Handling principles
- Reasonable knowledge of general building practices and manual technical skills
- Management of third-part stakeholders
- Good organisational, resource and time management skills
- Good level of computer literacy or ability to learn quickly as a tablet & phone will be provided
- Initiative to make decisions and resolve issues
- Able to work effectively and safely alone, as well as within a team
