Location information

Brakpan is an important mining and engineering town 37 kilometres east of Johannesburg. Brakpan Cremation Memorial is located to the left of the main entrance of Brakpan Cemetery. From the centre of town follow Prince George Avenue in the direction of Springs. The large cemetery is on the left 1.2 kilometres from the junction with Olympic Road (M46). During the 1939-1945 War 5 South African soldiers were cremated here. They are commemorated on a Memorial erected in the cemetery, their names being engraved on a bronze panel affixed to the Wall of Remembrance in the Crematorium. It bears the inscription: 1939-1945 THOSE WHOSE NAMES ARE RECORDED HERE DIED IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY AND WERE CREMATED
