Off the shelf - delve into the CWGC archive

As part of “Explore your Archive week” the Commission is sharing treasures from its historic archives. The archives offer a rich historical narrative, spanning over 100 years. They tell us stories and bring alive the people, events and decisions that shaped the Commission’s early years.

The Commission’s archive contains a vast array of items, such as rare letters of correspondence from Playwright James Matthew Barrie and British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, to Battlefield artefacts, such as pocket watches and cap badges.

In June 2018, the CWGC archives were nationally recognised and were added to the UNESCO UK Memory of the World Register. Visit our new immersive multimedia article to discover some gems from the CWGC’s archive and find out how we maintain and preserve our collection.
