David Richardson announced as Trustee of The Royal Botanical Gardens Kew

Our very own Director of Horticulture, David Richardson, has been appointed as a Trustee of The Royal Botanic Gardens Kew.

All Trustees are appointed by the Secretary of State and Her Majesty the Queen and are responsible for the oversight of Kew.

David has worked for the CWGC for over 30 years, in all its major global areas and has recently led initiatives on performance management and chemical reduction. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Charted Institute of Horticulture, has served on the Institute’s Council and is a Liveryman of Worshipful Company of Gardeners.

Kew is a world-famous scientific organisation, internationally respected for its outstanding collections as well as its expertise in plant and fungal diversity, conservation and sustainable development in the UK and around the world. It also has an important link with the history of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

In 1916, Sir Arthur Hill, then assistant director of Kew, became the very first botanical advisor to work with the Graves Registration Commission, which had been hastily established because of the huge number of losses during the First World War. Sir Arthur went on to be instrumental in advising the IWGC on horticulture as it established the early cemeteries.

Our very own Director of Horticulture, David Richardson, has been appointed as a Trustee of The Royal Botanic Gardens Kew.
