CWGC Experience unveiled by HRH The Princess Royal

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) are pleased to announce the unveiling of their new visitors centre: the CWGC Experience.

The CWGC Experience was unveiled today (25 June) by HRH The Princess Royal in a ceremony at the new visitors centre in Beaurains, France. The ceremony was also attended by CWGC Vice-Chairman Sir Tim Laurence, CWGC Director General Victoria Wallace, Her Majesty's Ambassador to France, His Excellency Lord Llewellyn of Steep, the Préfet du Pas-de-Calais, Monsieur Fabien Sudry and various CWGC staff members.

The CWGC Experience will open to the public tomorrow (26 June) and will give visitors an up close and intimate look behind the scenes at the teams who still work painstakingly to care for the fallen.

Visitors will get an in-depth look at the work the Commission does to commemorate the 1.7 million Commonwealth casualties from the First and Second World Wars.

As well as the history of the Commission, visitors will learn about the process of finding, recovering and burying the dead as well as the methods of identification. They’ll also get a detailed look at the work of our skilled artisan craftsmen who work tirelessly to maintain some of the world’s most impressive and recognisable monuments and memorials.

Entry to the CWGC Experience is free, and visitors will be able to take advantage of a free audio guide that will walk them through every aspect of the work undertaken by the Commission.
