Canadian High Commissioner attends CWGC volunteer event at Stratford upon Avon

On Saturday 9th April a volunteer meet-up for the West region took place at CWGC Stratford upon Avon cemetery. Volunteer tour guide Ewan Cuthbertson, gave a tour of the cemetery for all the volunteers and special guests, including the Canadian High Commissioner and Colonel James Hawthorne representing the Canadian Armed Forces.

Stratford upon Avon has a high proportion of Canadian Air Force casualties from the Second World War and our Canadian guests were greatly moved by the care given to them. The High Commissioner and Liz Woodfield, CWGC Director of External relations, each laid wreaths at the Cross of Sacrifice.

Afterwards our volunteers had the opportunity to meet some of the EOHO and Public Engagement teams and meet with each other and share experiences. They were also able to talk to the Canadian High Commissioner about the work that they do for CWGC. This, and the good mix of EOHO volunteers, speakers and tour guides resulted in a very informative and meaningful day for all concerned.
